Nine Earn MCCC Presidential Scholarships

The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded Presidential Scholarships to several area students: Kennedy Bowling, Elaney Fisher, Ty Grube, Hannah Kincaid, Emma Lloyd, Abby Rice, Ellie Sharpe, Alexander Thebolt and Garret Thomas. The scholarships are to be used for tuition and fees for the 2022-2023 academic year.

–Bowling of Carleton, is a 2022 graduate of Michigan Virtual Charter Academy. She will study pre-medicine. She was a member of the National Honor Society and several other clubs, including American Sign Language, Read Aloud Café, cooking, journalism and yearbook clubs. She also served as a private tutor and lead tutor for peer-to-peer tutoring as a Monroe County Teen Ambassador and was an active 4-H member. Kennedy is the daughter of Ernest and Lisa Bowling.

–Fisher of Petersburg is a 2022 graduate of Summerfield High School. She will study nursing. While attending SHS, Elaney was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and the varsity volleyball, basketball, softball and track teams. Elaney is the daughter of Josh and Tara Fisher.

–Grube of Newport is a 2022 graduate of Jefferson High School. He will study nursing. While attending JHS, Ty was named co-vice president of the Student Council, secretary of the National Honor Society, head of public relations for the Student Prevention Leadership Team and was the Jefferson Bear school mascot. He was an assistant coach for the Frenchtown Youth Softball League and volunteers at Red Cross blood drives, St. Anne’s Food Closet, Monroe County Special Olympics, Empty Bowls and at cross country and track meets. He has helped clean up at the St. Charles Catholic Church Cemetery and at the parish’s annual festival. Ty is the son of Michael and Carrie Grube.

–Lloyd of Dundee is a 2022 Dundee High School graduate. She will study speech pathology. Emma was a member of the National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. While attending DHS, she played four years of varsity volleyball, was the varsity volleyball team captain, and also played softball. Emma received Lenawee County Athletic Association Scholar Athlete, All Region and Lenawee County Athletic Association honors. Emma is the daughter of Jim and Rachel Lloyd.

–Kincaid of Newport is a 2022 graduate of Jefferson High School. She will study graphic design. While attending JHS, she was a member of the National Honor Society, tutored fellow students and was a member of the Writers Club. Hannah is the daughter of TJ and Linda Kincaid.

–Rice of Newport is a 2022 graduate of Jefferson High School. She study nursing. While attending JHS, Abby was a member of the National Honor Society, volunteered at the Red Cross blood drive and with the Special Olympics. Abby is the daughter of Gary and Mandie Rice.

–Sharpe of Newport is a 2022 Jefferson High School graduate. She is studying general education. While attending JHS, Ellie was a member of the National Honor Society and volunteered at bottle drives to benefit a local nursing facility, food drives, food pantry, school events and tutoring. Ellie is the daughter of Brad and Dannielle Sharpe.

–Thebolt of Dundee is a 2022 Dundee High School graduate. He is studying computer science. While attending DHS, Alexander was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Prevention Leadership Team, Dundee VI Borgs Robotics, Interact and track and field and cross-country teams. He received the Athlete of the Month, Scholar Athlete award and was on the honor roll. Alexander is the son of Brian and Sacha Thebolt.

–Thomas of Monroe is a 2022 graduate of Jefferson High School. He will study marketing. Garret was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Student Prevention Leadership Team, Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church and volunteered with the Special Olympics. While attending JHS, he was involved in varsity track and field, varsity cross-country and varsity basketball. Garret received the Cross-Country Most Improved and the Coaches’ Award. He was president of the class of 2022 and the manager of the Jefferson High School Store. Garret is the son of Frank and Andrea Thomas.
