Dozens of Michigan Students Awarded College Scholarships From MEA
LANSING, MI – The cost of college for dozens of Michigan students will be a little lighter with help from a scholarship from the Michigan Education Association.
The 2022 MEA Scholarship was awarded to 49 current and future students of Michigan universities in 2022.
The scholarship, founded in 1997, honors exemplary public school students from across the state. Since its inception, the fund has awarded 748 scholarships totaling more than $ 810,000, officials said in a news release.
To be eligible for the award, recipients must be dependent on a current or retired member of the MEA. The fund also considers academic achievement, extra-curricular activities as well as school and community service, the release said.
Among the 426 students who applied this year, the MEA scholarship trustees chose 22 recipients who will each receive $ 1,600. Another 27 repeat winners already enrolled in college will receive $ 800 each.
