Head On Photo Awards / Deadline 5 June / Entry fee from AUD $ 30

Since 2004 Head On Photo Awards has been supporting photographers through cash prizes, exposure and equipment. This year they offer a prize pool of over $ 70,000 in cash and prizes. The Head On Portrait and Landscape Awards are open internationally to professional, emerging and enthusiast photographers from classical to contemporary styles. The Head On Student Award is open to Australia’s young photographers.

The submissions are judged anonymously. The judging panel is composed of international leading professionals such as Carly Earl (Picture Editor at The Guardian Australia), Giles Clarke (Photojournalist at Getty Images), and Azu Nwagbogu (Founder and Director at African Artists’ Foundation). Ian Parry Scholarship / Deadline July 15 / Free to entry

The Ian Parry Scholarship honors the memory of Ian Parry, a photojournalist who died while on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989. The international photographic competition is aimed for young photographers who are either attending a full-time photographic course or are under 24 years old.

There are two categories: The Sunday Times Award for Achievement and The Canon Award for Potential. Each winner will receive $ 3,500 for their chosen project. The scholarships further offer a portfolio review day with leading industry experts in London, the publication of the works in The Sunday Times Magazineand a year-long Mentorship Program to the winner of The Canon Award for Potential.

Winners from both scholarships will have the opportunity to take part in the Transmissions Program at Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan. Furthermore, World Press Photo will automatically accept the winner of the Achievement Award into its final list of nominees for the Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam. L’AiR Arts International Arts Research Residency / Deadline June 30 / Free to entry

L’AiR Arts is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to support intercultural exchange through international art residency programs in Montparnasse France at Atelier 11. Their program mirrors the symbol of equality, a horizontal exchange between artists and cultural professionals from various cultural backgrounds, of different ages and genders, working in various disciplines and at all stages of their professional careers.

The organization is offering solo and duo residences as well as virtual ones for international applicants. With 150 years of history, this space has served as a studio for many well-known artists such as Amadeo Modigliani, Tsuguharu Foujita, and Paul Gauguin among others. This residency has been designed to provide artists and cultural professionals with the opportunity to carry out artistic projects, develop their research, create new ideas, and build their international network. The participants are then welcome to present the results of their residency in various event-based formats, supported by the L’AiR Arts team.

This year the aim is to celebrate the 150 years of the artistic history of their atelier and their program. It will be supported by 4 main pillars: intercultural exchange, research, professional development, and creation. As an experimental collaborative platform, Atelier 11 residency will be focused on solo and duo projects that will run parallel to the international group programs, art residencies for local practitioners, partner programs, and events open to a broader community. Light Work Artist-in-Residence Program / Deadline July 1 / Free to entry

Located in Syracuse New York, Light Work was founded as an artist-run, non-profit organization in 1973. Having hosted over 400 artists in residency, the primary goal at Light Work is to offer direct support.

Each Artist-in-Residence will have work become part of the Light Work Collection and published in a special edition of Contact Sheet: The Light Work Annual along with an essay commissioned by Light Work. The selected artists will receive a $ 5,000 stipend, an apartment to stay in, a private digital studio, a private darkroom, and 24-hour access to their facility. This international residency program is open to all artists working in photography or image-based media, participants in the program are expected to use their month to pursue their own projects: photographing in the area, scanning or printing for a specific project or book, and so on.

Each year between 12 and 15 artists are selected to participate in this opportunity, including one artist co-sponsored by Autograph ABP, two artists co-sponsored by the Darryl Chappel Foundation, and one artist commission for Urban Video Project (UVP), providing a space of exchange, growth, and networking. SWAN – SWEDISH ARTIST RESIDENCY NETWORK / Rolling applications / Free to entry

SWAN is an open national network for anyone who works with, or wants to start working with residency activities in the areas of photo, art, dance, handicraft, film, literature, music, and design. The network has a wide range of actors and represents both artist-driven initiatives and institutions.

With the purpose to condemn Russia’s war in Ukraine and expresses their solidarity with the Ukrainian people, they are offering emergency residencies to all independent artists and cultural workers who are at war or under threat from the authoritarian regime. Their residency program includes not only accommodation but also works towards enabling artists to continue their practice. Providing their artists-in-residence with the contact of the Swedish authorities, crisis support, and connection with local cultural life and fellow artists, aiming to provide them with the tools to move forward and continue to be safe based on the needs they may have.

SWAN is working in collaboration with Artists at Risk for artists to have as quick an application process as possible. At the moment they have about 20 artist residencies available for single artists, groups, or families, they aim to host artists for a minimum of 3 months (funded with accommodation, art, and production grant), they have available a series of residencies in different countries of Europe. Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund / Rolling Applications / Free to entry

The Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund was created in early 2020, in response to the extensive need in the creative community for support during the height of the COVID-19 crisis. This year, we have witnessed the unprovoked, violent attacks on Ukraine and the tragic loss of innocent lives. As this tragedy unfolds, they aim to support creators during the growing humanitarian crisis and refugee situation in the region.

They will be focusing their Community Fund efforts on providing support to those creators who have been directly impacted by the unjustified invasion of Ukraine. If selected, you will receive US $ 10,000 from the Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund. While applicants can use the money granted to them at their full and lawful discretion, the purpose of the award is to allow recipients impacted by the invasion of Ukraine to support themselves and their families during this time of conflict.

Selection is determined based on your professional portfolio and whether you have been directly impacted by the attacks on Ukraine. They are accepting and evaluating applications on a rolling basis, to find out how to submit your application visit their website.

The Black and White Photo Awards were born to be a new meeting point between photographers from all over the world. The winner of our international B&W photography award will receive € 1000. As the intention of the black and white photography awards is to reward the talent, you can win one of the 23 prizes for the winning photos.
